A password-protected directory is a folder that can't be accessed unless the correct login credentials are provided. This could be a whole website or simply a single page that's located within a subfolder. If you attempt to open this kind of a directory, you'll see a browser pop-up where you will have to type in a username and a password. In case you enter the right ones, you will be able to continue browsing the content with no need to do anything extra. If the login details aren't accurate, however, you shall see a note that you aren't allowed to see the content. In case this option is active, you will not be able to open a file even if you have a direct link. The option is very useful if you want to prohibit the access to some content or if you are developing an Internet site and you don't want visitors to be able to access it before it's ready.

Password Protected Directories in Hosting

Creating a password-protected area shall take no more than several mouse clicks and a few seconds when you host your sites inside a hosting account with our company. You won't need to do anything complicated - you'll have to select a domain/subdomain, to choose which folder under it must be protected, and then to input the login name and password which will be used to access that folder. If a number of people need their own login details, there won't be a problem to make numerous different usernames with access to the same folder. All secured folders shall appear with a padlock icon within the File Manager section, so you'll always know where this option is enabled. If you'd like to disable the protection function for any folder, you can deactivate it from the very same section of the Control Panel where you have enabled it.

Password Protected Directories in Semi-dedicated Servers

When you have a semi-dedicated server account with us, you shall be able to protect any content that you've uploaded through our protection tool. Its interface is as basic and intuitive as that of the Hepsia CP it's part of, so you will not have to enter any code at any time. You will only need to pick one of the domains/subdomains you have in the hosting account and to choose which folder needs to be password-protected - the website’s root folder or some folder below it. You may then type the username and the password, which will be stored in encrypted form in our system, and you shall be ready. The protection will be turned on straightaway, so anyone that tries to access the newly protected folder will have to type in the right login details. If a number of people have to be able to access the same content, you could set up a separate username for each.
